Just the thought of moving can be a major headache – but with a bit of planning the task won’t seem terrifying. There’s a lot to consider, so here are some tips from the experts to help you on your way …
• Let your family, friends and all businesses and organisations you’re associated with (like banks) know when you’ll be moving and your new address
• Arrange for NZ Post to redirect your mail
• Don’t forget the milkie – cancel any standing orders
• Arrange a final electricity meter reading
• Talk to your telephone company about disconnection and reconnection
• Contact your insurance company - discuss your needs during and after your move
• Put all your important papers such as passports and legal documents in a safe place so you can keep track of them during the move and find them easily in your new place
• Make arrangements for transport and, if necessary, boarding accommodation for your pets
• You might want to take cuttings from favourite plants to put in your new garden
• It’s a good idea to get quotes from at least two removal companies and make your decision based on your own particular moving needs, not just on price.
